Some History

Philip Austin founded Datapower on the 1 November 1977. In 1978 his daughter Delia van Aardt joined the company and his wife Andy in 1980. Delia’s husband Michael van Aardt became a member in 1989.
Suppliers

We source our supplies from numerous importers throughout South Africa, retailing in the latest technology in computer consumables.

Datapower has a long established and close relationship with the leaders in computer technology, like Hewlett Parchard, Lexmark, Epson and Canon.

Achievements

Datapower is the only locally based HP Supplier Business Partner and Channel Partner for Epson and Canon.

Other accolades include Supplier Of The Year in the Indirect Procurement category, from Delta Motor Corporation, the QSP Award, in 1997.

We have also received Top Sales awards from Lexmark and Hewlett Packard for achieving targets.

Philip Austin, founding member, was the Computer Society of South Africa’s Computer Person of the year in 1994. He has been a member of the Computer Society of South Africa for 27 years.

Empowerment

To us empowerment means substantive and widespread job creation for historically disadvantaged South Africans.

In 2004 we restructured our business to become fully BEE compliant. Ms Dipuo Mzembe joined the family business as one of the major shareholders. We have four permanent female staff members of which two are HDSA and four permanent male staff members of which one is HDSA.

The majority of ownership is held by females - 73%.

Social responsibility

Datapower prides them selves as a business with a social conscience.

We are actively involved with the Cotlands Baby Sanctuary together with Lexmark. A “baby day” is donated for every original Lexmark Cartridge that is sent back to Lexmark South Africa.

We also contribute towards Business Against Crime on a monthly basis and assist a school in a disadvantaged community with food aid.
